Skype is a little program for making free calls over the world to anyone else who also has Skype. It is called Skype to Skype. All you just need their Skype user name. The most common way to use Skype is with your computer. All you need is a microphone and speakers, or a head set. You can make Skype conference calls with 9 other people. Calls can also be video calls. AND you can use Skype as a chat room &/or SMS messages. Or you can get Skype Phones or Cell Phones so you don’t have to run to your computer to answer a call. Also, Skype has other goodies: there are ways for you to call people who don’t have computers or for them to call you…..anywhere in the world for really really low rates. (See below) And here are the other Skype goodies that I would like to tell you about. Skype Calls to land and cell phones (Skype Credit): What about those family members and friends who do not have computers? You can call them by signing up for one of Skype’s three monthly subscriptions or buy Skype credit now to make cheap calls internationally ($10.00 USD buys about 7 hours of talk time). Then open your Skype program, enter a phone number, click to make a call, use the pop-up to choose the country, then enter the area code and number and hit the call button. That simple!!! Also Skype has extremely low rates to many many countries. The International Rates are currently as low as 2.1 cents per minute to many many countries. Skype Phone Number (Get your own personal unique phone number): You can actually get your own regular phone number with your own area code. So if your family or friends, who aren’t using Skype, want to call you they can; by dialing a regular number and you can still receive the call in Skype. No matter where you are. Example: if you have a San Diego-based SkypeIn number, but you’re somewhere in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, South America or another part of North America and connected to a computer, your San Diego area family or friends – or anyone! – can just dial your SkypeIn San Diego number, and your Skype on the other side of the world starts ringing… and your friends are only paying whatever their phone company charges them for making a phone call to San Diego. You can even get a phone number in another country (numbers available in 21 countries). So if you live in San Diego, but have many friends in London, who don’t have a computer get a London number and they can call you without costing them anything. I have a San Diego number (bye-bye land phone), and one in Las Vegas, Colorado and FLA so my family don’t have to pay long distance charges to call me. I just have to have my computer on and the Skype program open. Simple!! Online number works on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, WiFi phones, Cordless phones, various Cell phones and some TVs. As a bonus SkypeIn comes with free Skype Voice Mail and the entire cost is $30.00 to $60.00 USD a YEAR (determined by the subscription you have). Let’s see a phone company match that price!! No matter how you make Skype calls they are all encrypted. So privacy and confidentiality are assured. No ‘Big Brother’ listening.
