The Chinese Zodiac consists of a 12-year cycle, each year of which is named after a different animal that imparts distinct characteristics to its year. Many Chinese believe that the year of a person’s birth is the primary factor in deciding that person’s personality traits, physical and mental attributes and degree of success and happiness throughout his/her lifetime.

Chinese astrology is based on the ‘Lunar Calendar’ (the year does not begin January 1st). If you were born between January 1st & February 20th, you may have been born the Lunar Year before. This program picks up the difference and subtracts 1 year.
For example, my daughter was born February 6, 1972. The Lunar New Year of 1972 began February 16, 1972. Thus she was born in the Lunar Year of 1971. To find out when a Lunar Year begins/began, click Lunar Calendar.
